The Five Towns College - Long Island Sound barbershop chorus is comprised of a unique mixture of young singing enthusiasts and older, experienced barbershoppers. The chorus is dedicated to the proliferation of the barbershop style and strives to exhibit ever-higher levels of vocal and musical artistry. Our exciting blend of youth and experience has always been one of the hallmarks of the ensemble. The Long Island Sound chorus is the premiere barbershop ensemble in the Long Island, New York area.

Our Founder

The Five Towns College - Long Island Sound barbershop chorus is the realization of a lifelong dream by our founder, Dr. R. David Johnson, who in his tenure as music professor at Five Towns College , envisioned a group that would serve as a barbershop training ground of sorts for young singers. His vision was for his students to be groomed by older, experienced barbershoppers to eventually take over the leadership of the ensemble. Unfortunately for all of us, Dave passed away early on in the life of the chorus. However, his dream lives on as the Long Island Sound still embodies his original vision. Some of Dave's former students have now taken over key leadership roles within the group's administrative and musical hierarchy.
